JOSÉ JAIRO VILLA TRUJILLO BIOGRAPHY

José Jairo Villa Trujillo was born in Itagüí, Antioquia, on August 20th, 1925. He was the eldest son of Mr. Nacianseno Villa Arenas and Mrs. Laura De La Rosa Trujillo. He had two sisters and a brother. At a very young age, he made the decision to enlist in the army, in order to pursue his dreams and financial stability and thus be able to help his family. While serving in the army, he was chosen to join the Colombia Battalion, which represented our country in the international war in Korea.

In 1943, he decided to travel to Bogotá to begin his military career at the Artillery School. In 1945 he received the Private First Class rank. He continued his military career showing himself to be a dedicated, disciplined, loyal man with a great desire to improve himself intellectually. All this, helped him so that his superiors admired him for his qualities and assigned him jobs of great responsibility. The captain of his group informed him that he would be part of the group of soldiers who would travel to Korea and in 1953, he left for this country together with 1,035 men belonging to the national army.

In Korea he belonged to a squad of 9 men that made up a platoon of 36 soldiers. He participated in all the combats in which the Colombia Battalion took part.

Corporal José Jairo Villa Trujillo was recognized for his value and because of this he was sent to the most dangerous points. One of those points was the Kumsong Valley match. When this valley was taken and occupied by the Colombians a week later, they were counterattacked by the Chinese army at midnight. There they killed almost all their comrades, only a few soldiers survived and escaped death, one of them was Corporal José Jairo Villa.

After collaborating and facing many combats, he returns to Colombia full of pride, to continue his military career. He received an “International War: Bronze Star” decoration. Mr. José Jairo Villa Trujillo reached the rank of First Vice Sergeant. He was retired. In 1979 he died in Popayán of a sudden heart attack, leaving a legacy of all his experiences and memories with his widow and three children.

 

José Jairo Villa Trujillo, nació en Itagüí, Antioquía, el 20 de Agosto de 1925. Fue el hijo mayor del señor Nacianseno Villa Arenas y la señora Laura De La Rosa Trujillo. Tuvo dos hermanas y un hermano. Siendo muy joven, tomó la decisión de enlistarse en el ejército, con el objetivo de buscar sus sueños  y una estabilidad económica y así poder ayudar a su familia. Estando prestando su servicio en el ejercito fue escogido para integrar el Batallón Colombia, el cual representó a nuestro país en la guerra internacional de Corea.

En el año de 1943, decidió viajar a Bogotá para empezar su carrera militar en la Escuela de Artillería. En 1945 recibió el grado de Cabo Primero. Continuó su carrera militar mostrando ser un hombre entregado, disciplinado, leal y con muchos deseos de superarse intelectualmente. Todo esto le ayudó a que sus superiores lo admiraran por sus cualidades y le asignaran trabajos de mucha responsabilidad. El capitán de su grupo le comunicó que él sería parte del grupo de los militares que viajarían a Corea y en el año de 1953 partió a este país junto con 1.035 hombres pertenecientes al ejército nacional.

En Corea perteneció a una escuadra de 9 hombres que integraban un pelotón de 36 soldados. Participó en todos los combates en que intervino el Batallón Colombia.

El Cabo José Jairo Villa Trujillo fue reconocido por su valor y debido a esto fue enviado a los puntos más peligrosos. Uno de esos puntos fue el combate del Valle de Kumsong. Cuando este valle fue tomado y ocupado por los colombianos una semana después fueron contraatacados por el ejecito chino a la media noche. Allí dieron de baja a casi todos sus compañeros, sólo unos pocos soldados sobrevivieron y escaparon de la muerte, uno de ellos fue el Cabo José Jairo Villa.

Después de colaborar y enfrentar muchos combates regresa a Colombia lleno de orgullo, a continuar con su carrera militar. Recibió una condecoración de “Guerra Internacional: Estrella de Bronce”. El señor José Jairo Villa Trujillo llegó hasta el grado de Sargento Vice primero y salió pensionado. En el año de 1979 muere en Popayán de un infarto fulminante, dejando un legado de todas sus vivencias y recuerdos en su viuda y sus tres hijos.

October 25, 1950

Having destroyed the bulk of the North Korean army, UN troops have pressed on into North Korea and are now approaching the Yalu River. Chinese People’s Volunteers Force (CPVF) troops under veteran commander Gen. Peng Dehuai cross into North Korea and inflict serious losses on the lead units of the UN advance. The sudden appearance of Chinese forces sends the main body of UN forces reeling back to the south bank of the Ch’ŏngch’ŏn River.
