
Bruce Irick Sr.
Bruce Stephen Irick Sr. was born on October 11th, 1931 in Florence, SC. He was one of eight children born to Carrie and Coy Irick. He went on to marry Jean (Lane) Irick and they have three children. Growing up he played basketball and football at Mcleneghan High School. At the age of 18 he was drafted into the Army and was trained as a medic in Texas before heading to Korea. While stationed in Korea he was located in Pusan for 14 months as well as other locations, as a medic his company and himself went wherever they were needed. Whenever his time was up for the Army he decided it was time to go back to college, and he used his GI Bill to attend the University of South Carolina majoring in accounting. After his college days were up he worked a few different jobs doing sales, he ended up landing a job at Francis Marion College as the Controller for the college. Today you can still see his name on campus, upon entering the campus his name is on the statue of Francis Marion you will see whenever you arrive on campus.

June 25, 1950
A massive artillery barrage from the North signals the beginning of the Korean War. Roughly 100,000 North Korean troops pour across the 38th parallel, and, although South Korean forces are driven back, they retire in good order.
